New York Public Library to Present Lincoln Center: Celebrating 50 Years

The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts will present a special exhibition, Lincoln Center: Celebrating 50 Years, October 15-January 16.

The exhibit investigates the complex and symbiotic relationship between Lincoln Center and New York City over the course of a half century and the key role Lincoln Center has played in New York’s development as an international cultural capital. It features some 400 historic and contemporary objects including photographs, ephemera, correspondence, costumes, set pieces, props, and video recordings representing all 12 of the resident organizations.

In addition, there will be a series of special panels, including Clurman and Kazan: Two Giants of the Theater (October 5, 6pm), featuring Carroll Baker, Lois Smith, and Eli Wallach; Some Enchanted Evenings: The Theatre on Film and Tape Archive at 40 (November 12, 6pm), in which TOFT director Patrick Hoffman discusses this important archive and shows video highlights; and A Very Lively Art: Producing Public Programs at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (December 3, 6pm), a lecture by Alan Pally, illustrated with video excerpts from past Library programs featuring Alan Bennett, Barbara Cook, Christine Ebersole, Bobby Short, and others.
