L.A. Downtown Film Festival to Screen Paul Newman, Jackson 5, Alfre Woodard Films

The 2009 Downtown Film Festival, which will take place in various Los Angeles venues, August 11-22, has announced some of its attractions.

The festival will offer back-to-back outdoor screenings of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford, and Hud, starring Newman and Patricia Neal on August 13 at the 7+FIG Shopping Center. Oscar-winning actress Cloris Leachman will be on hand at the Butch Cassidy screening.

The centerpiece attraction, on August 14 at the United Artists Screening Theater at the AT&T Center, will be Reach for Me, starring Seymour Cassel, Alfre Woodard, Adrienne Barbeau, Johnny Whitworth, and Lacey Chabert. Cassel will receive the festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

The closing night feature, on August 22, will be Jackson 5 in Africa, a documentary filmed during the musical group’s 1974 tour in Senegal, narrated by Robert Hooks.
