Briana Carlson-Goodman, who currently appears in the Broadway revival of Hair at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, will be among the performers in the Readers’ Ensemble Company reading of Jean Giraudoux’s The Madwoman of Chaillot, presented as part of their Summer Festival, July 27, at the University of the Streets. J. Michaels will direct.

Giraudoux’s surreal play is set in a the city overrun with bankers and financiers collapsing the economy for their own profit. The only ones left to save the world are the artists, tradesmen, and vagrants, led by an enigmatic “madwoman” whose plot might be crazy enough to work.

The cast will feature Sheila Mart as the Madwoman; Carlson-Goodman and Jim deProphetis as Lovers; and Nick Fondulis, M. Alan Haley, John Stillwaggon, and Paul Sadlik as bankers, financiers, and realtors. The ensemble will also include Joyce Beck, Kristin O. Blessin, Carla Kelly, Marana Leevson, Tracy Lipson, Sara Minisquero, Jessica Real-Mohr, Robert Saunders, Josh Silverman, John Payne, and Lorenzo Valoy.
