American Idol‘s Diana DeGarmo to Join Off-Broadway’s Toxic Avenger

American Idol finalist Diana DeGarmo will assume the role of blind librarian Sarah in the Off-Broadway production of The Toxic Avenger at New World Stages, beginning August 14.

The musical — featuring book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro, music by Bon Jovi’s David Bryan, and direction by Tony Award winner John Rando — focuses on an aspiring earth scientist tossed into a vat of radioactive goo who becomes New Jersey’s superhero, The Toxic Avenger. The cast also includes Nick Cordero, Demond Green, Jonathan Root, and Nancy Opel. As previously announced, Green’s roles are being played by Nicholas Rodriguez through July 19.

DeGarmo’s theater credits include playing Penny Pingleton in Broadway’s Hairspray, Back to Bacharach and David in Los Angeles, and starring roles in the national tours of Brooklyn: The Musical and Oz. As previously announced, she will also appear in the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma’s upcoming production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, July 21-25.
