Hunter Parrish to Join Broadway's Spring Awakening; Current Cast to Sign Ads for Charity

Hunter Parrish will take over the role of Melchior in the Broadway cast of Spring Awakening on August 18. He replaces Kyle Riabko, who will depart on August 2 to play Melchior on the show's national tour.

Parrish is currently appearing in the Los Angeles benefit concert stagings of Paris Barclay's One Red Flower. He is best known for playing the role of Silas on Showtime's Weeds, and will be seen next month on the big screen in 17 Again opposite Matthew Perry and Zac Efron.

Based on the 1891 play by Frank Wedekind, the show won eight 2007 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The production features direction by Michael Mayer, choreography by Bill T. Jones, book and lyrics by Steven Sater, and a score by Duncan Sheik.

In related news, Riabko, Alexandra Socha, Blake Bashoff, Lilli Cooper, Blake Daniel, and Emma Hunton. will make an appearance at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre at noon on Wednesday, July 9 to sign "limited-edition" poster-sized copies of their new public service ads for Operation BackPack. Posters cost $20.
