Ferguson, Plimpton, et al. Join Public’s Midsummer Night’s Dream

Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Martha Plimpton have joined the Public Theater’s production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, August 7-September 9 at the Delacorte Theater. The show, which will open officially on August 23, will be directed by Daniel Sullivan.

Plimpton will play the role of Helena, replacing the previously announced Missi Pyle, while Ferguson will play the role of Flute. In addition, the cast will include Chelsea Bacon (First Fairy), Ken Cheeseman (Starveling), Christine Corpuz (Ensemble), Herb Foster (Philostrate), Simon Garratt (Fairy), Erica Huang (Fairy), Ben Huber (Ensemble), Cassidy Leonard (Fairy), George Morfogen (Egeus), Isis Ashai Mullen-Hansen (Fairy), Mallory Portnoy (Ensemble), Lina Silver (Fairy), Keith Randolph Smith (Snug), and Jack Tartaglia (Fairy).

They join the previously announced Jason Antoon (Snout), Keith David (Oberon), Mireille Enos (Hermia), Jon Michael Hill (Puck), Austin Lysy (Lysander), Tim Blake Nelson (Quince), Daniel Oreskes (Theseus), Laila Robins (Titania), Jay O. Sanders (Bottom), and Elliot Villar (Demetrius).

The show’s creative team will include Eugene Lee (sets), Ann Hould-Ward (costumes), Michael Chybowski (lighting), and Acme Sound Partners (sound). Sullivan won a Tony Award for his direction of Proof and has been nominated on five other occasions, most recently for Rabbit Hole. He last worked for the Public when he directed the award-winning production of David Hare’s Stuff Happens.
