Fantasia to Stay in Broadway’s Color Purple Through January 6

Fantasia Barrino will continue to play Celie in the hit musical The Color Purple through January 6, 2008.

Fantasia joined the show on April 10 and received a 2007 Theatre World Award for her performance. She also performed Celie’s big number “I’m Here” on the 2007 Tony Awards.

Fantasia first came to fame when she was declared the winner of season 3 of the TV series American Idol. Since then, she has released the hit album Fantasia, written her autobiography Life Is Not a Fairy Tale and starred in the television film adaptation of the book. She has been nominated for numerous awards, including the Grammy, American Music Award, and the NAACP Image Award.

The Color Purple stars Alton Fitzgerald White, Elisabeth Winters-Mendes, NaTasha Yvette Williams, Chaz Lamar Shepherd, Darlesia Cearcy, and Krisha Marcano. For a review of Fantasia’s performance, click here.
