Elizabeth Stanley, who starred as April in the recent Broadway revival of Company, will play Lorelei Lee in Gentleman Prefer Blondes, to play August 1-25 at the Gateway Playhouse in Bellport, Long Island.

The musical features a book by Joseph Fields and Anita Loos, based on Loos’ novel, and a score by Jule Styne and Leo Robin. The musical tells the story of two American lounge singers working their way to Paris on an ocean liner, who try to snare rich husbands. The cast will also feature Paul Clausen, Michael Hayward Jones, Susan Scudder, and Ann D. Hurst.

The show’s original 1949 Broadway production starred Carol Channing (who also appeared as the same character in another musical, Lorelei) while KT Sullivan took on the part in the short-lived 1995 revival. Marilyn Monroe played Lorelei in the 1953 film version and scored a hit with her version of “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.”

Stanley made her Broadway debut in Company. She previously appeared at Gateway as Amneris in Aida and in the title role of Sugar. Earlier this month, she starred in a reading of the musical Red Eye of Love at the Eugene O’Neill Center in Waterford, Connecticut.
