Charles, Foxworth, & Kassebaum Join Receptionist Cast; Moses Added to MTC Season

MTC has announced full casting for its production of Adam Bock’s The Receptionist and the addition of Itamar Moses’ play The Four of Us to its 2007-2008 season.

Josh Charles, Robert Foxworth, and Kendra Kassebaum will join previously announced Tony Award nominee Jayne Houdyshell in the world premiere of Bock’s office comedy, The Receptionist, to be directed by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello. The play will begin previews October 12, with an opening set for October 30.

Charles’s stage credits include The Distance from Here, which received a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble, The Well-Appointed Room at Steppenwolf, and A Number at ACT in San Francisco. Film credits include Dead Poets Society and Hairspray. Foxworth has appeared on Broadway in Judgment at Nuremburg, Honour, and Ivanov. Kassebaum is currently starring as Glinda in the Broadway production of Wicked; her other Main Stem credits include Assassins and Rent. Houdyshell received a Tony Award nomination for her work in Well, and is currently playing the role of Madame Morrible in Wicked.

In related news, MTC has added to its schedule the New York premiere of Moses’ The Four of Us, beginning March 6 with an opening on March 25.
The play, which will be directed by Pam MacKinnon, tells the story of best friends Benjamin and David and what happens when one of them is catapulted into literary stardom while the other one remains a struggling playwright.

Moses’ previous plays include Bach at Leipzig, Celebrity Row, and Outrage. MacKinnon previously directed The Four of Us at The Old Globe and recently directed John Fugelsang’s All the Wrong Reasons at New York Theatre Workshop. She will also direct the New York debut of Edward Albee’s Peter and Jerry at Second Stage in October.

The Four of Us will be the final production of MTC’s season at New York City Center, which will also include the world premiere of The Starry Messenger, written and directed by Kenneth Lonergan, and starring Matthew Broderick, and the American premiere of Pumpgirl by Abbie Spallen.
