Productions have been announced for the initial season of the Theatre Royal Haymarket Company, under the direction of Jonathan Kent.

The season will begin with William Wycherley’s classic Restoration comedy The Country Wife, September 27-January 12, starring Liz Crowther, Fiona Glascott, David Haig, Patricia Hodge, and Toby Stephens. Next up will be Edward Bond’s The Sea, January 17-April 19, starring Dame Eileen Atkins.

The company’s third presentation will be the world premiere of a new musical Marguerite, May 6-November 1, with music by Michel Legrand, a book by Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schonberg, and Kent, and lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer from the original French ones by Boublil. Olivier Award winner Ruthie Henshall will play the title role, the beautiful and notorious mistress of a high ranking German officer in World War II who falls in love with a musician half her age.

All three shows will feature designs by Paul Brown, lighting by Mark Henderson, and sound by Paul Groothius. Kent was previously co-artistic director of the Almeida. Among his many notable credits are Medea, Hamlet, and Faith Healer, all of which transferred to Broadway.
