Chlumsky, Colón-Zayas, Linden, Peryera Added to Bay Street Roster

Hal Linden and Anna Chlumsky will star in the Bay Street Theater’s production of Crispin Whitell’s Darwin in Malibu, August 15-September 3. The production will be directed by Daniel Gerroll. Additional casting will be announced later.

In other Bay Street news, Rene Pereyra and Liza Colón-Zayas will join previously announced star Mercedes Ruehl in Diane Shaffer’s Viva La Vida!, July 18-August 6. The play, to be directed by Susana Tubert, will officially open on July 21. Ruehl will play the legendary Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, Pereyra will play her husband, the artist Diego Rivera, and Colón-Zayas will play the role of Rosita. The play concerns the last 18 months of Kahlo’s life.

Ruehl won the Tony Award for Lost in Yonkers and the Academy Award for The Fisher King. Her recent New York stage credits include Woman Before a Glass, in which she played art collector Peggy Guggenheim, and The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? She also starred on Broadway in The Rose Tattoo, The Shadow Box, and I’m Not Rappaport.

Pereyra is a stage star in his native Mexico and has appeared in such films as Traffic and Salvador. Colón-Zayas stage credits include Our Lady of 121st Street and In Arabia We’d All Be Kings, and she has been recently seen in such films as United 93 and Freedomland.
