The Broadway production of Steel Magnolias, Robert Harling’s play about a group of Southern women who interact in a beauty parlor, will give its final performance at the Lyceum Theatre on Sunday, July 31 at 3pm. At the time of its closing, the show will have played 23 previews and 136 regular performances.

Directed by Jason Moore, Steel Magnolias stars Delta Burke as Truvy, Christine Ebersole as M’Lynn, Rebecca Gayheart as Shelby, Marsha Mason as Ouiser, Lily Rabe as Annelle, and Frances Sternhagen as Clairee.

In his review of the show for TheaterMania, David Finkle wrote: “Though it’s nothing more than an agreeable diversion, the production does stand out in a season that’s unusually rife with all-male casts, not to mention plays and musicals wherein men hog the spotlight…Women who want to see themselves at least partially reflected on stage will find reassurance and satisfaction in the beautifully acted Steel Magnolias.”

A tour of the show is planned for the 2007-2008 season.
