Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Dana Delany, and Chris Bauer have joined Academy Award winner Chuck Cooper in the cast of New York Stage & Film’s workshop production of John Patrick Shanley’s Defiance, to be presented July 29-31 at Vassar College.

Previously titled Chain of Command, the play will also feature Jeremy Strong and Trevor Long. It was originally scheduled for a one-time-only presentation on July 16 at the Powerhouse; the three-day production replaces the previously announced play The Talk, which has been postponed until further notice.

Shanley won the 2005 Pultizer Prize, a Tony Award, a Drama Desk Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award, a Lucille Lortel Award, and an Obie Award for Doubt. His other plays include Sailor’s Song, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, and Four Dogs and a Bone. He won an Academy Award for the screenplay of Moonstruck.

Cooper won an Academy Award for his portrayal of John Laroche in Adaptation; he also received an Oscar nomination for his work in Seabiscuit, an Emmy nomination for his performance in the HBO film My House in Umbria, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his work in American Beauty.

Santiago-Hudson won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor for his work in August Wilson’s Seven Guitars and was most recently seen in the Broadway production of Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean. The HBO film version of his play Lackawanna Blues has been nominated for seven Emmy Awards. Delany has been seen on Broadway in Hugh Leonard’s A Life and Brian Friel’s Translations. A popular film and television actress, she won two Emmys for her starring role in the ABC series China Beach. Bauer recently made his Broadway debut as Mitch in the Roundabout production of A Streetcar Named Desire and is a longtime member of the Steppenwolf Theater Company. He also starred on the NBC TV series Third Watch.
