Idina Menzel, Marc Kudisch, Mary Testa, and Henry Stram head the cast of Michael John LaChiusa’s new musical See What I Wanna See, which is scheduled to begin performances at the Public Theater on October 11.

Ted Sperling, who won a 2005 Tony Award for orchestrating The Light in the Piazza, will direct the production, which will feature musical staging by Jonathan Buttrell. One additional cast member is still to be announced. Presented last summer at the Williamstown Theater Festival under the title of R Shomon, the new musical explores stories of faith, loss, and redemption. The Williamstown production starred Audra McDonald, Tom Wopat, and Michael C. Hall along with Stram and Testa, who will recreate their roles.

Menzel won the 2004 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for Wicked.
She received a Tony nomination for her role of Maureen in Rent, which she has recreated for the soon-to-be-released film version. Her other credits include Aida and Andrew Lippa’s version of The Wild Party.

Kudisch is currently playing Baron Bomburst in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, for which performance he earned a 2005 Tony nomination. Testa was Tony-nominated for her work in 42nd Street and On the Town. Stram’s Broadway credits include The Crucible and Titanic; he has also appeared at the Public Theater in Henry V, Timon of Athens, and many other productions.

A five-time Tony nominee, LaChiusa has been represented on Broadway by The Wild Party, Marie Christine, and Chronicle of a Death Foretold. Among his Off-Broadway credits are Hello Again and First Lady Suite.
