John Fisher’s Joy, a comedy with music that had a critically acclaimed Off-Off-Broadway run earlier this year, will begin a commercial engagement at The Actor’s Playhouse on July 31 and will open officially on August 14. Ben Rimalower will direct.

Ken Barnett, Michael Busillo, Ben Curtis, January LaVoy, Brooke Sunny Moriber, Christopher Sloan, and Paul Whitthorne make up the cast of the show, which is about a group of college friends finding love in San Francisco . Only Curtis and Sloan appeared in the previous New York production. Joy will feature choreography by James DeForte, musical direction by Mark Hartman, set design by Wilson Chin, costume design by David Kaley, lighting design by Ben Stanton, and sound design by Zach Williamson.

In his review of the Off-Off-Broadway production, Dan Bacalzo wrote: “The play is very smart, the dialogue quite clever, and the character relationships nicely developed…Hopefully, it will be able to transfer to a larger space with a bigger budget so that this delightful production can be seen by more people.”
