Hobbit-Forming: Cast Announced for Lord of the Rings Musical

Tony Award-winner Brent Carver will take on the role of Gandalf in the world premiere musical adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, scheduled to begin performances on February 2, 2006 at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto.

Matthew Warchus will direct the production. A two-time Tony Award nominee, his Broadway credits include Art, Follies, True West, and Life(x)3.

In addition to Carver, who won a Tony Award as Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in Kiss of the Spider Woman, the 55-member cast includes James Loye as Frodo, Michael Therriault as Gollum, Dylan Roberts as Merry, Owen Sharpe as Pippin, and Gabriel Burrafato as Legolas, along with Evan Buliung, Richard McMillan, Peter Howe, Dion Johnstone, Carly Street, Victor A. Young, Kerry Dorey, and Kristin Galer. The roles of Galadriel, Gimli, and Bilbo have yet to be cast.
