Broadway Production of Syncopation Canceled

The Broadway production of the Allan Knee play Syncopation, which was to have starred Neve Campbell and Michael Hayden, has been canceled. The show had been scheduled to begin previews at the Longacre Theatre on October 2 in advance of an October 24 opening but, according to producer Vaud E. Massarsky, “some of the financing did not come through.”

Syncopation, which won the American Theater Critics Award following its 1999 premiere at the Long Wharf Theater, is a comic drama about the unlikely romance between a meat packer and a seamstress in a turn-of-the-century Manhattan dance studio. The Broadway production was to have been directed by John Tillinger and choreographed by John O’Connell; the design team was to have included John Lee Beatty (sets), Catherine Zuber (costumes), Brian MacDevitt (lighting), and John Gromada (sound).
