Julie Kurnitz, an actress and comedian who is probably best known for her role of Irene in the Woody Allen film Radio Days, died on Thursday, July 15, 2004 after a lifelong battle with Marfan Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder. She was 61.

Kurnitz played Mrs. McNish in the short-lived 1970 Broadway musical Minne’s Boys and performed frequently in cabaret venues throughout her career. In recent years she was a keynote speaker for the Board of National Marfan Foundation; in that capacity, she traveled worldwide to teach people how to live with this disease.

Donations to the National Marfan Foundation Scholarship Fund in Kurnitz’s name may be sent to the fund at 22 Manhasset Avenue, Port Washington, NY 11050.
