The Broadway production of everyone’s favorite male-stripping musical, The Full Monty, is expected to close on September 1, almost two years after the show’s original cast members took it all off for the first time at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre. This announcement comes after the show began advertising its “final weeks” in mid-July as an attempt to boost ticket sales.

Tickets for the tuner are currently being sold only through September 1 and spokesman Wayne Wolf of Barlow*Hartman said, “That’s when we’re planning on closing at the moment.” But he noted that there is the possibility of Monty closing sooner if sales are extremely poor or, conversely, extending if they are extremely good.

Opening to largely favorable reviews on October 26, 2000, The Full Monty was a favorite with audiences throughout the 2000-2001 season and beyond. Though the show has lately been struggling at the box office, it has already recouped its investment (not an easy feat for any Broadway musical these days) and will therefore close as an official “hit.”
