The rotating cast of Mimis and Rodolfos for Baz Luhrmann’s production of the Giacomo Puccini opera La Bohème, set to open on Broadway in December, was officially announced today.

After “an exhaustive casting search of more than 3,000 young singers, spanning nearly two years,” the roles of the counsumptive seamstress and the passionate poet will be played in various combinations by Alfred Boe, Jesus Garcia, Lisa Hopkins, Wei Huang, David Miller, and Ekaterina Solovyeva at the Broadway Theatre and during the production’s pre-Broadway run at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco. The opera will be sung in the original Italian with English surtitles and will feature a 26-piece orchestra under musical director Constantine Kitsopoulos.

Based on a production of the Puccini work that Luhrmann helmed for the Sydney Opera in 1993, the new Bohème has a creative staff that includes Catherine Martin (scenic designer/co-costume designer), Angus Strathie (co-costume designer), Nigel Levings (lighting designer), and Acme Sound Partners (sound design).

Broadway previews of La Bohème begin on November 22 and opening night is set for December 8. Tickets will be available through Telecharge beginning September 15.
