New York City Ballet principal dancer Robert Fairchild and London Royal Ballet first dancer Leanne Cope will star in the Broadway-bound world premiere stage adaptation of An American in Paris. Featuring a book by Craig Lucas and a score by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin, the production will be directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon.
Inspired by the Oscar-winning film, An American in Paris follows the romance between World War II veteran Jerry Mulligan (Fairchild), an expat living in France, and Lise Dassin (Cope), a young French woman engaged to a cabaret singer. The principal company is also set to include Veanne Cox (Madame Baurel), Jill Paice (Milo Davenport), Brandon Uranowitz (Adam Hochberg), and Max von Essen (Henri Baurel).
The creative team includes Bob Crowley (sets and costumes), Natasha Katz (lighting) and Jon Weston (sound) with a musical score adapted and arranged by Rob Fisher. Brad Haak is the musical director, with orchestrations by Christopher Austin.
An American in Paris will open on Broadway in spring 2015 following its December 2014 world premiere at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
