The Duffy Square TKTS booth celebrated its 40th birthday on June 26, 2013 with a mid-morning birthday party hosted by Broadway favorites Julie Halston and Harvey Fierstein. During the ceremony, Fierstein, chosen as a representative of the Great White Way, was presented with a certificate from the New York City Mayor’s Office that proclaimed June 26 TKTS Day in the Big Apple. Kate D. Levin, the New York City Commissioner for Cultural Affairs, was on hand to read the proclamation.
During the ceremony, Fierstein and Halston announced that the organization will now offer a TKTS 7-Day Fast Pass, a system that allows patrons to return to Window #1 at the Duffy Square booth within seven days of their initial purchase and avoid the line to buy new tickets. Ticket stubs from their first purchase must be provided.
Also on hand for the celebration was the cast of the long-running off-Broadway favorite, Forbidden Broadway, to present tunes created specifically for the event.
