The Bridges of Madison County, a new musical by Jason Robert Brown (Parade) and Marsha Norman (The Color Purple), is headed to Broadway this winter. The production is set to begin previews January 13 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater. Bartlett Sher (South Pacific) will direct.

The musical will be receiving its world premiere production this summer at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, where it is set to star Stephen Pasquale (Far From Heaven). Sher is directing that production, which will run on the festival’s main stage from August 1-18.

The Bridges of Madison County is inspired by the romantic Robert James Waller novel of the same name. It tells the story of an Italian woman who marries an American soldier in order to flee Italy, only to find herself drawn to a lonely National Geographic photographer.

No casting for the Broadway production has been announced.
