Stage and screen star Susan Sarandon has been named this year’s recipient of the Trevor Hero Award, which will be presented to her by fellow Broadway and film luminary Stanley Tucci at Trevor Live, to be held at Chelsea Piers (Pier 60) on June 25.

Sarandon is being honored for being an openly vocal ally for youth and increasing visibility and understanding of LGBTQ community. As an ally for LGBTQ people, she has supported the freedom to marry as well as funding for HIV/AIDS research and healthcare for patients, and has spoken out about homophobia in the media. A press statement quotes the actress as saying, “Young people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender deserve to know that there are people who care for them and who are fighting to make this world a better and more accepting place for them.”

Michael Mayer directs the event, which as previously reported will also feature theater veterans Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, and Anthony Rapp. Members of the band fun. will also participate, as will Thomas Roberts.

This annual event, benefitting the life-saving, life-affirming work of The Trevor Project, brings together top entertainers and corporate leaders in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth in crisis. Stephen Friedman, President of MTV, will accept the Trevor 2020 Award presented to MTV at the event.
