The broadcast will be based on the original, 1959 Broadway musical, which features a score by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II and a script based on the book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. It will not be a remake of the popular 1965 film version, which starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.
