Austen Nash Boone to Star in Theatreworks USA’s Skippyjon Jones

Austen Nash Boone will play the title role in Skippyjon Jones, Theatreworks USA’s featured production of its 24th Annual Free Summer Theatre Program. The musical will be presented at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, July 17-August 17, with an opening on July 25.

Based on the popular picture book series of the same name by Judy Schachner, the musical is about at Siamese cat whose wild imagination transforms him into El Skippito Friskito, the greatest sword fighter in Mexico.

As previously reported, the production will be directed by Peter Flynn and choreographed by Devanand Janki. It features music by Eli Bolin with book and lyrics by Kevin Del Aguila.

The cast will also include Jose Restrepo as Mama Junebug/Polka Dot-ito/Alfredo Buzzito, Veronica Reyes as Jezebel/Poquito Tito, Gabrielle Ruiz as Ju-Ju Bee/Rosalita, and Graham Stevens as Jilly Boo/Don Diego.

The production features scenic design by Rob Odorisio, costume design by Tracy Christensen, lighting design by Jeff Croiter and Corey Pattak, and sound design by Carl Casella. Orchestrations are by Frank Galgano and Matt Castle, the latter of whom also serves as musical director.

Tickets for Skippyjon Jones are FREE and are available on a first-come, first-served basis in-person at the Lucille Lortel Theatre box office (121 Christopher Street) on the day of the performance.
