Works by Thomas Bradshaw, David Rabe, Erika Sheffer Set for New Group’s 2011-2012 Season

The New Group has announced the plays that will comprise its 2011-2012 season.

The schedule includes Erika Sheffer’s Russian Transport, a portrait of an immigrant couple, their two assimilated teenagers and the fierce and fiery upheaval they experience when sexy, mysterious Uncle Boris from the old country and comes to stay with them in their home in Sheepshead Bay.

Also on tap will be Thomas Bradshaw’s Burning, which tells the intersecting stories of a contemporary Black painter who hides his race and goes to Germany for a show, and a homeless teenager who comes to New York in the 1980s to become an actor and is taken in by two gay men.

The New Group’s third offering will be David Rabe’s An Early History of Fire. Jo Bonney will direct this play that centers on a man who finds his life in the Midwestern town in the 1960s is disrupted when a young woman returns from her college in the east.
