NYMF Musical I Got Fired to Play 2011 Daegu International Musical Festival

The new musical I Got Fired, with book, music, and lyrics by Keith Varney, will play South Korea’s Daegu International Musical Festival, with performances at the Daegu Opera House, July 7-10. The musical, which played the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) in 2010, is the second production in the NYMF exchange with DIMF, the only theatre event of its kind in Asia.

In I Got Fired, aspiring writer Keith has been a temp in a wacky office’s soul crushing cubicle for six years. When an evil nemesis emerges to squash his coffee-stained hopes and dreams, Keith makes a decision that causes him to get summarily fired… with security escorts and everything. Naturally he retaliates by writing a musical based on a true-ish story.

Steve Bebout directs a cast that includes Keith Varney, Savannah Wise, Toni DiBuono, Devon Goffman, Eric Anderson, Collin Leydon, EJ Zimmerman, and Robyn Corujo.

The production features choreography by Dontee Kiehn, musical direction by Chris Haberl, lighting design by Grant Yaeger, set design by Ji-Youn Chang, sound design by Gary Alan Busch, Jr., and costume design by Michael Kale.

This year’s New York Musical Theatre Festival will run September 26-October 16.
