LaChanze, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, John Mahoney, Andre De Shields, et al. to Participate in Readings of Trouble in Mind

Project1Voice has organized multiple benefit staged readings of Alice Childress’ classic play, Trouble in Mind to be presented in theaters across the country as part of Project1Voice; 1Voice, 1Play, 1Day on Monday, June 20.

This play within a play follows the journey of an integrated cast in 1957 as they embark upon rehearsals for a racially-charged play.

Andre DeShields, Bill Irwin, La Chanze, Justine Lupe-Schomp, Malachy McCourt, Tim McGeever, Alano Miller, Don Stephenson, and Leslie Uggams will appear in the New York reading directed by Charles Randolph-Wright at the American Airlines Theatre.

John Mahoney will appear alongside TarRon Patton, Alfred Wilson, Anthony Irons , Ericka Ratcliff, Aaron Todd Douglas , Katie Jeep Jonathan Weir, Shawn Douglass, and Danny Goldring, at the Chicago Center for the Arts.

LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Roger Robinson, and Leslie Odom Jr. are slated for the Los Angeles event, at Ebony Repertory Theatre.

Peter Coyote, Margo Hall, Geoff Hoyle, Tobie Windom, and Alan Taylor are cast in the San Francisco production, presented by The Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, at the Zeum Theater.

Additional readings will be held in New Brunswick, NJ, directed by Petronia Paley; DeSoto, TX, featuring Irma P. Hall; and Birmingham, AL, with Tonea “Tommie” Stewart, as well as Cleveland, Fort Worth, Houston, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Washington, D.C..
