Alan Rickman will star in Theresa Rebeck’s Seminar, which will play at a Shubert Theatre to be announced on Broadway this fall. Sam Gold will direct the production.

The comedy centers on four young writers who are participating in a private seminar taught by the brilliant but unpredictable Leonard (Rickman), an international literary legend. But as Leonard deems some students more promising than others, tensions arise, sex is used as a weapon, and alliances are made and broken. Additional casting will be announced in the near future.

Rickman received Tony Award nominations for his performances in Private Lives and Les Liaisons Dangereuses. He was most recently seen on stage in New York in John Gabriel Borkman at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. His film credits include the Harry Potter series, in which he plays Professor Severus Snape, as well as Die Hard, Sense and Sensibility, Sweeney Todd, and Bottle Shock.
