NYMF Announces Selections for 2010 Next Link Project

The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) has announced selections for the 2010 Next Link Project, which comprises twelve of the full production slots in the annual festival, which will run September 27-October 17.

The Next Link Project is NYMF’s primary writer service program, in which participants attend a special weekend-long symposium featuring seminars on fundraising, logistics, marketing and self-producing, led by industry professionals. They are introduced to potential collaborators, supporters and producers, and receive dramaturgical support from professional literary managers and dramaturgs. Each show also receives a $4,500 subsidy toward its production in the Festival.

Selected musicals include Above Hell’s Kitchen, featuring book, music and lyrics by Jonathan Spottiswoode; Cheer Wars, with book and lyrics by Gordon Leary and music by Karlan Judd; Frog Kiss, featuring book and lyrics by Charles Leipart, with music by Eric Schorr; The Great Unknown, with book by William Hauptman and music and lyrics by Jim Wann; I Got Fired: A Semi-Autobiographical Sort-of-True Revenge Musical, with book, music and lyrics by Keith Varney; and Jay Alan Zimmerman’s Incredibly Deaf Musical, with book, music, and lyrics by Jay Alan Zimmerman.

Next Link selections also include The Kid Who Would Be Pope, with book, music and lyrics by Tom Megan and Jack Megan; The Most Ridiculous Thing You Ever Hoid, featuring book by Andy Seiler, Jim Beckerman, and Fred Wemyss, lyrics by Beckerman and Seiler, and music by Beckerman; POPart: The Musical, with book and lyrics by Daryl Lisa Fazio and music by Aaron McAllister; The Tenth Floor, featuring book by Sara Cooper, with music and lyrics by J. Sebastian Fabal; Tess, a new rock opera, with book, music and lyrics by Annie and Jenna Pasqua; and Things As They Are, featuring book and lyrics by John Dietrich, with music by Jonathan Comisar.
