The Tony Randall Theatrical Fund has announced recipients of its 2009 grants, which will go to ten theatrical organizations.

Named after the late actor, the grants have in the past gone to fund individual productions of a classic play. However, this year’s grants will be General Operating Support Grants. Heather Randall cites the economy as the reason for the change, saying in a statement, “While this is a new direction in our foundation’s giving guidelines, we do plan to return to our traditional format ($100,000 for the production of a classic play) in the future.”

The largest grants will go to The Civilians, Elevator Repair Service, and LAByrinth Theater Company. Repertorio Espanol will receive a mid-sized grant, and grants were also awarded to The Atlantic Theatre Company, Classic Stage Company, The Flea Theater, The New Group, Signature Theatre Company, and Vineyard Theatre.
