Melvin Van Peebles to Perform His Unmitigated Truth at Algonquin

Emmy Award winner and four-time Tony Award nominee Melvin Van Peebles will perform his new work, Unmitigated Truth: Life, a Lavatory, Loves and Ladies, at the Algonquin Theater‘s Parker Theater, June 15-July 1.

The piece candidly recounts the memories of a life (almost) well lived through song. It will also feature music director and guitarist William “Spaceman” Patterson and vocalist Carmen Barika.

Van Peebles has worked as an actor, producer, writer and director. He received Tony Nominations for book, music and lyrics of the 1972 musical Ain’t Supposed to Die a Natural Death, and garnered another nod for best book of Don’t Play Us Cheap in 1973. He received a 1987 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Writing of a Children’s Special. His latest film Confessions of a Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha, based on his own graphic novel of the same name, will premiere August 21, 2009.
