Fresh Fruit Festival Announces 2009 Line-Up

Programming has been announced for the 2009 Fresh Fruit Festival, which celebrates lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender art and culture. This seventh annual grass roots multidisciplinary international festival will be held in multiple venues across New York City, July 9-27.

Plays will include the one-acts Co-Op by Barbara Kahn and Persephone’s Autumn by Suellen Rubin; The Billy Willy Show; Joel Ensana’s The Coronation, directed by Eddie Lew; Miss Mary Dugan by Manuel Igrejas; Passing Ceremonies by Steve Willis; Joe Norton’s School Night; Devan Hite’s Since Psychopathia Sexualis; Daniel Koenig’s Six Across; Sodomy Rules: Bowers V. Hardwick by Bill Crouch; Return to Tennessee, written and performed by DJ Sharp; Lucile Scott’s V-Love, directed by Scout Durwood; and Writers Colony: A Play on Words by David Allyn.

In addition, the festival will feature the children’s show Journey Through the Rainbow, by Nick Curto and Hal Rainbow and the dance program Open Fruit Barre, featuring works by choreographers Ian Archer Watters, Marissa Maislen, and Christopher J. Anderson.

Free readings will include The Group by Anthony Giordano; Jolly Roger by Keith Angora, directed by Kevin Brofsky; Happy New Year, Lady Lou! by David Gaard; and Late Night with the Boys by Alex Bond.

The festival will also include a variety show entitled Cavalcade of Fruits, a comedy night, an open mic, a poetry slam, an evening of jazz, a multi-media gallery show; and an evening in which LGBT writers read from their own work and the work of those who inspired them.
