Craig Bierko and Jan Maxwell star in the world premiere of To Be Or Not to Be, written by Nick Whitby, based on the film of the same name, to play Manhattan Theater Club’s Biltmore Theatre, beginning September 11. The production, which will open officially on October 2, will be directed by Casey Nicholaw.

The black comedy is set in 1939 Warsaw, and involves a theatrical troupe run by married couple Joseph and Maria Tura (played by Bierko and Maxwell), who end up facing desperate times, and are recruited to help catch a spy by a handsome young fighter pilot.

The supporting cast will feature Peter Benson, Steve Kazee, Michael McCarty, Kristine Nielsen, Brandon Perler, Rocco Sisto, and Marina Squerciati. Bierko received a Tony Award nomination for The Music Man; Maxwell received Tony nominations for Coram Boy and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

The creative team will feature Anna Louizos (sets), Gregg Barnes (sets), Howell Binkley (lighting), and Darron L. West (sound). Nicholaw directed and choreographed The Drowsy Chaperone and did the choreography for Monty Python’s Spamalot, all of which earned him Tony Award nominations.
