Speech & Debate to Launch Roundabout Underground Series

Roundabout Underground, a new series of plays to be performed at its 65-seat black box theater in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center on West 46th Street, will launch with Stephen Karam’s Speech & Debate on October 5. The production, which will open officially on October 29, will be directed by Jason Moore. No casting or creative team information has been announced.

The play concerns three teenage misfits in Salem, Oregon, who reluctantly form their school’s first speech and debate team after discovering they are all linked by a sex scandal that has rocked their school. Karam is best known as the co-author of columbinus. Moore directed Avenue Q, for which he received a Tony Award nomination, and the Broadway revival of Steel Magnolias.

Tickets are $20 and will go on sale in August. For more information, visit www.roundabouttheatre.org.
