Connor McPherson’s The Seafarer will begin Broadway performances October 17, with an opening date set for November 15. The production will play a Shubert theater yet to be announced.

Set in Dublin on Christmas Eve, the play follows Sharky, who has returned home to look after his aging brother who’s recently gone blind. With old drinking buddies on hand for a card game and the arrival of a stranger from the distant past, the stakes get raised and Sharky finds himself playing for his very soul.

The play had its world premiere in September 2006 at London’s Cotteslow Theatre.
As previously reported, The Seafarer‘s move to Broadway results from the partnership between the National Theatre (which houses the Cotteslow) and Boyett Ostar Productions.

The creative team for The Seafarer will include Rae Smith (set and costume design), Neil Austin (lighting design), and Matthew Smethurst-Evans (sound design). Casting will be announced at a later date.
