Molly Picon Exhibition Debuts at New York Public Library

Molly Picon: Yiddish Star, American Star, an exhibition devoted to the “sweetheart” of New York’s Lower East Side Yiddish-speaking community, will run at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center through September 22.

This exhibition, produced in cooperation with the Museum of the City of New York, includes more than 200 photos, programs, posters, sheet music, records, radio scripts, set renderings, and costumes. Among the items on view are photos from Picon’s 1923 New York Yiddish Theatre debut in Yankele; radio scripts from her 1941 series Nancy from Delancey; memorabilia from the 1961 Broadway production of Milk and Honey, in which she played the role of Clara Weiss, and a clip from the film version of Fiddler on the Roof, in which she played Yente the Matchmaker.

Among the special events connected to the exhibition are a piano concert entitled Molly Picon and Her Yiddish Music at 3pm on Wednesday, June 27 and a panel discussion, Molly Picon and Milk and Honey: Memories of the 1961 Broadway Musical at 6pm on Thursday, June 28.
