Carole King Musical Natural Woman Being Prepared for Broadway

Natural Woman, a show featuring the music of singer/songwriter Carole King and her longtime collaborator Gerry Goffin, is being readied for a Broadway production. The musical is directed by Tony Award winner Michael Blakemore (Kiss Me Kate, Copenhagen); it has a book by Martin Bergman, Rita Rudner, Janis Hirsch, Hannie Rayson, and Blakemore.

An industry-only staged reading of the show is being held this week, with a cast headed by Tom Wopat and Randy Graff. No dates or casting for the Broadway production have yet been announced.

The show employs the King-Goffin songs, including classics and newly composed material, to tell a contemporary love story set in New York City. The team’s oeuvre includes such hits as “Up on the Roof,” “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow,” and “One Fine Day.” King’s album Tapestry is one of the best-selling albums of all time.
