Set in Dublin in the 1850s, the play tells the story of a wealthy Irish Quaker woman who is conflicted between her work with the poor and her duty to her ambitious husband. Her idealistic views are challenged when she befriends a freed American slave, Sarah, and a charismatic and passionate Englishman named Alfred. The play was a co-winner of the 2005-2006 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.
