The York Theater Company production of Stephen Dolginoff’s Thrill Me: The Leopold & Loeb Story is extending for two weeks through July 10. Beginning June 27, Dolginoff will replace Matt Bauer in the role of Nathan Leopold; Bauer could not continue in the show due to a prior commitment.

Thrill Me also stars Doug Kreeger as Richard Loeb. The musical tells the story of the infamous Chicago pair whose killing of young Bobby Franks in 1924 was dubbed “The Crime of the Century.” The show began performances at the York on May 16.

In his review of the production for TheaterMania, Dan Bacalzo wrote: “In the songs that he has crafted for the show, Dolginoff excels at irony. If sung out of context, “Nothing Like a Fire” would seem to be a lovely, romantic ballad; but in context, it refers to arson and to the fact that criminal activity stimulates Loeb’s libido. Likewise, Loeb’s solo “Roadster” is chilling precisely because the sweet, seductive melody — beautifully sung by the honey-voiced Kreeger — belies the sinister act of luring the unsuspecting Bobby Franks into Loeb’s car.”
