Theatreworks/NYC, the recently formed, Manhattan-based arm of Theatreworks/USA, will launch its 2005-2006 season with the world premiere of Julia Jordan’s play Walk Two Moons at the Lucille Lortel Theater, July 7-August 14.

Based on Sharon Creech’s Newbery Medal Award-winning book of the same title, Walk Two Moons follows a girl on a road trip across the country with her eccentric grandparents. The cast includes Heather Dilly, Charles Hyman, Sarah Lord, Susan O’Connor, Lucas Papaelias, and Peggy Scott. Melissa Kievman is the director.

“We are so excited to finally be able to perform in New York City for extended runs,” says Barbara Pasternack, the company’s artistic director. “We can now serve hundreds more families throughout the New York area. This is something we’ve dreamed about for years.”

Theatreworks/NYC’s season will continue with the Marcy Heisler-Zina Goldrich musical Junie B. Jones, based on the best-selling series of children’s books by Barbara Park (November 4-December 3); a musical version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol by David Armstrong, Mark Waldrop, and the late Dick Gallagher (December 9-31); and the musical Sarah, Plain and Tall, based on Patricia MacLachlan’s novel about a widower and his family living on the Kansas prairie at the turn of 20th century, written by Julia Jordan, Nell Benjamin, and Laurence O’Keefe (March 17-April 30).
