On Golden Pond to Close on June 26

The Tony Award-nominated production of On Golden Pond will close on Sunday, June 26, due to the continuing illness of star James Earl Jones. As was previously reported, the Tony- and Oscar winning actor is recuperating from pneumonia; his doctors now say that he will not be fully recovered until August.

At the time of its closing, the show will have played a total of 19 previews and 93 regular performances. It was originally scheduled to run through Labor Day. In addition to Jones, who stars as Norman Thayer, the production features Leslie Uggams, Linda Powell, and Peter Francis James. For the remainder of the run, the role of Norman will be played by Charles Turner, Jones’s standby.
