Ted Lange, the actor best known for his role of Isaac on the hit ’70s TV series The Love Boat, is also a playwright: His Lemon Meringue Façade will have its New York premiere production beginning June 12, courtesy of the New Perspectives Theatre Company.

The play focuses on four blondes in their late 30s; they meet in Pasadena for a baby shower but the celebration takes a sour turn when secrets that shatter the quartet’s “white bred” façade are revealed. The cast of the New Perspective production includes Cheryl Lynn Bowers, Carrie Baker, Gunna Wilson, Melanie Boland, James Blanshard, and Lange himself in the role of Richard.

Before setting sail on The Love Boat, Lange graduated from London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. He made his Broadway debut in Hair and his subsequent credits include regional and touring productions of The Piano Lesson, The Sunshine Boys, Biloxi Blues, and Driving Miss Daisy. Among the Shakespearean roles he has played are Petruchio in Taming of the Shrew, Bottom in A Midsummer’s Night Dream, and the title characters in Macbeth and Othello. The NAACP honored Lange with its Best Actor award in 2001 for his work in Louie and Ophelia. He has written 17 plays.

Lemon Meringue Façade will run June 12-28 at the New Perspectives theater, located at 750 Eighth Avenue, 6th Floor (between 46th and 47th streets). Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 for students and seniors. For more information, click here.
