Kathie Lee Gifford Joins With Johnny Mercer Foundation to Promote the Great American Songbook

Kathie Lee Gifford has joined with the Johnny Mercer Foundation in the “Accentuate the Positive” program, designed to introduce students to the Great American Songbook with a focus on how songs are conceived and created and how they stand the test of time. The program was initiated in 2003 and is currently being offered throughout the New York City area; it will be expanded nationwide during the next school year.

Gifford will participate in a special “Accentuate the Positive” weekend workshop for children ages 8-12, during which students will delve deeper into the works of Johnny Mercer and other entries in the Great American Songbook. They will learn about lyric writing, view footage from Johnny Mercer films, learn songs and build toward a performance for their families, friends, and educators.
