BAM and chashama Announce "Outside Art" Festival

The BAM Local Development Corporation and the not-for-profit arts collective chashama [sic] have announced the launch of “Outside Art,” a four-week festival of free summer performances in the BAM Cultural District to be performed in BAM Park, located at the intersection of Lafayette Avenue and Fulton Street in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn. The festival will include theater and dance performances by emerging, New York City-based artists.


According to Jeanne Lutfy, president of the BAM LDC, “Activating public spaces in and around the Bam Cultural District with programs like the Outside Art festival and the Fort Greene Greenmarket performances is central to our mission. These efforts provide opportunities for artists and further enrich the community.”

Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets; food vendors will be on site for all performances. A complete festival schedule follows:

Thursday-Saturday, July 15-17, at 7pm:
A Midsummer Night’s Dream
The Boomerang Theatre Company goes ’60s with Shakespeare’s comedy of love, fairies, and a man with an ass’s head.


Friday-Sunday, July 23-25, at 7pm:

Dreamscape: Where Womb Powers Supersede

Through dance, song, and text, choreographer Christalyn Wright’s performance piece depicts best friends Ricky, Rhonda, and Randi falling into a dream state and taking on the world.


Wednesday-Sunday, July 28-August 1, at 7pm:
Love’s Labour’s Lost
Pilot House, The Theater Company offers Shakespeare’s play, a clash of the sexes that progresses from farce to comic romance.


Thursday-Saturday, August 5-7, at 7pm:
Death of a Salesman, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, and The Glass Menagerie
In its inaugural summer, Suitcase Players takes to the streets and parks of New York to present 15-minute versions of classic American plays.
