It has just been announced that film and stage star Richard Dreyfuss will headline a Broadway revival of Sly Fox, Larry Gelbart’s 1976 comedy about greed and inheritance based on Ben Jonson’s Volpone.

Dreyfuss has appeared in such films as American Graffiti, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Goodbye Girl (for which he won an Academy Award), and Mr. Holland’s Opus. His Broadway theater credits include But, Seriously…, Total Abandon, and Death and the Maiden. His most recent stage role was in The Exonerated Off-Broadway.

Sly Fox, scheduled to begin previews on February 27, 2004 and to open in late March, will be directed by Arthur Penn (Fortune’s Fool, The Miracle Worker), who helmed the original production. The revival will have set design by Jesse Poleshuck, costume design by Albert Wolsky, and lighting design by Peter Kaczorkowski. Additional information about the cast and the opening date will be announced shortly.
