Mary Tyler Moore, Bernadette Peters, and a host of other Broadway stars will turn out for Broadway Barks 5, the annual dog and cat adopt-a-thon, in Shubert Alley on Saturday, July 12.

Broadway Barks helps New York City’s shelter animals find permanent homes. Last year’s event attracted over 6,000 people, and more than 20 New York area animal shelters participated. This year’s event will feature an auction of celebrity-autographed memorabilia and a sample of pets from a number of shelters.

According to Moore, “Bernadette and I have been so pleased with the success and popularity of Broadway Barks, and we are continually amazed and touched by the legions of theater fans and animal lovers who support this event every year. Thousands of dogs and cats in New York’s shelters are in desperate need of homes, and so many homeless animals are in danger of being euthanized.”

“Shelter adoption is one of the main focuses of Broadway Barks,” Peters adds, “but one of the best ways to prevent overpopulation and to save animals’ lives is by spaying and neutering. All of the shelters participating in Broadway Barks will have plenty of information available about the benefits of pet neutering and shelter adoption.”

Among the stars scheduled to join Moore and Peters in the benefit are Harvey Fierstein, Dick Latessa, and Linda Hart (Hairspray); Edie Falco (Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune); Tammy Blanchard, John Dossett, Kate Buddeke, Julie Halston, and Heather Lee (Gypsy); Sutton Foster and Leslie Uggams (Thoroughly Modern Millie); Jon Secada (Cabaret); Laura Benanti and Mary Stuart Masterson (Nine); and Linda Emond (Life x 3).

Broadway Barks 5 will begin at 3:30pm on Saturday, July 12 in Shubert Alley, which connects 44th and 45th Streets between Broadway and Eighth Avenue. In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled for Sunday, July 13 at 12pm. For more information, phone 212-840-0770, ext. 477, or visit www.OfficialBroadwayBarks.org.
