It has been announced that Jonathan Tolins’s acclaimed Off-Broadway play The Last Sunday in June will be closing on July 6, after having played eight previews and 102 regular performances.

The show first premiered at the Rattlestick Theatre last winter before moving to the Century Center for the Performing Arts. Directed by Trip Cullman, The Last Sunday in June puts a modern spin on Mart Crowley’s classic The Boys in the Band, examining relationships and stereotypes of the “gay play” genre set against the backdrop of the Gay Pride Parade. The production stars Arnie Burton, Donald Corren, Jonathon F. McClain, Susan Pourfar, Mark Setlock, Peter Smith, David Turner, and Matthew Wilkas.

In his review of the show for TheaterMania, Philip Hopkins wrote, “The cast is an absolute pleasure to watch and the direction of Trip Cullman is stunning, not only in pace and timing but in his blocking of eight actors with remarkable fluidity. Cullman squeezes all the wit and nearly every drop of emotion from this script, and each actor seems fully at ease,” and “As the lights fade on The Last Sunday in June, the main question isn’t who’s wearing a rainbow bracelet on Pride Day but what kind of life he or she is leading every day of the year.”
