On Tuesday, July 9, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, the actress Zoe Caldwell will sign copies of her book I Will Be Cleopatra: An Actress’s Journey at The Drama Book Shop in Manhattan.

Described as “a riveting account of a determined, yet modest woman who became one of the leading classical actors of our time,” the book is an “intimate memoir” of the woman, born in Australia at the height of the Great Depression, who first demonstrated her talents at the age of nine when she appeared on stage as “Slightly Soiled” in Peter Pan. Caldwell went on to far more sophisticated roles, performing major works of Shakespeare, Chekhov, Harold Pinter, Tennessee Williams, etc. in the company of such distinguished colleagues as Charles Laughton, Albert Finney, Edith Evans, Paul Robeson, Laurence Olivier, and Judith Anderson.

Caldwell has won four Tony Awards for her performances in Slapstick Tragedy, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Medea, and Master Class. Her lengthy marriage and artistic partnership with producer Robert Whitehead ended only with Whitehead’s death last week.

The Drama Book Shop is located at 250 West 40th Street, between 7th & 8th avenues. For more information, phone 212-944-0595 or visit the website www.DramaBookShop.com.
